How are you feeling about the climate crisis? Hopeful? Scared? Confused? Whatever you are feeling, you have come to the right place!

We've collated a list of eleven climate podcasts that you can listen to on the go or snuggled up at home in the evenings - it doesn’t matter if you are a weathered environmentalist or a complete novice! Whether you are looking for motivation to act more sustainably, information on how to keep your environmentalism intersectional, quick and easy sustainability hacks, or just affirmation that there is hope for the future, there will definitely be something here for you.

Everything we mention here should be accessible wherever you get your podcasts.

Climate Curious by TEDxLondon

As the name suggests, this podcast is for those who are curious about climate change but have never called themselves an activist. Join Maryam Pasha and Ben Hurst in their compelling yet very down to earth discussion about systemic and individual changes that should be made to curb the climate crisis. But don’t feel intimidated! They spill a new juicy climate confession at the end of each episode... we strive for progress, not perfection!

Have you ever wondered what a Net Zero actually is? Or what the Paris Agreement is about? Here is an excellent on-the-go education, bringing you bitesize episodes answering the top climate FAQs. Give this a listen and put your climate confusion behind you!

Sustainability Defined by Jay Siegel and Scott Breen

If you’re a science nut and love the technical details behind the future of sustainability, this podcast is the one for you. A very informative discussion that spans from menstrual products to electric bikes, biotechnology to sustainable beer. What’s more, if you don’t fancy listening to the whole podcast, the website (see link above) helpfully categorises episodes into sectors so you can pick from the topics that you’re particularly interested in (e.g. environmental policy).

Sustainababble with Ol and Dave

A very upbeat and conversational weekly podcast, genuinely funny and down-to-earth. Excellent for those of you who find the climate emergency overwhelming or anxiety-inducing! Despite Ol and Dave’s hilarious rapport, they manage to stay on track with current political and social events which keeps the discussion topical and relevant (e.g. “America - WTF”).

For What It’s Earth by Emma Brisdion and Lloyd Hopkins

A very wholesome and more nature-based take on environmentalism. If you have green fingers and love the outdoors, the home gardening episode has some handy tips and tricks to make your plant obsessions more sustainable! Emma and Lloyd also delve into broader issues like the national bee decline, badger culling and the importance of British fungi.

Field Work by Zach Johnson and Mitchell Hora

Interested to learn more about sustainable agriculture? Hear it straight from the horse's mouth (not quite literally) by joining American farmers Zach Johnson and Mitchell Hora. We especially recommend the episodes, "The Future of Agriculture: A Visit with Tim Hammerich," and "Regenerative vs. Organic". The first discusses the increasing prevalence of conservation, data management, and AI in present and future farming; the second weighs up the pros and cons of the two seemingly most sustainable approaches to farming.

The Sustainable Minimalists Podcast by Stephanie Seferian

Biweekly episodes focusing on making individual behaviours more sustainable, particularly at home. Predominantly targets parents, but also features episodes that apply to everyone! Stephanie provides a friendly and honest guide to simple daily habits that, when built up over time, can enormously reduce your impact on the environment.

Green Dreamer by Kamea Chayne

A HUGE bank of knowledge to draw from - if you don’t know where to start, you can sign up to their weekly newsletter where they recommend 3 episodes for you to listen to each week. Episodes cover profound social and systemic issues such as decolonisation, reconnecting with indigenous past, and regenerative industry. Our favourite episode so far is “Shining Light On Food “Waste” Through Dumpster Diving” with Matt Homewood, but let us know what you think!

Climate Queens by Katie and Clodagh

An informal yet informative take on climate activism – two Dublin gals walk you through the basics of environmentalism: the main problems we face and what we can hope to do about them (e.g. fast fashion, plastic waste, overconsumption of water etc.) Highly recommended for climate newbs!

Planet A - Talks on climate change by Dan Jorgensen

Danish Minister of Climate, Energy and Utilities brings you a podcast on why we should care about climate change. As the saying goes, “there is no Planet B,” so we must act now. If you’re looking for impressive stats about how immense the climate emergency is, this is for you!

Costing The Earth – BBC Radio 4

Different presenters and producers are featured each week, so subject matter is widely varied which leads to a thoroughly interesting range of perspectives on the climate emergency. Topics from the past year include the problem with landfill, air conditioning, and even pet cats! But don’t panic, there are some more uplifting topics covered too... the “Gene Editing Nature” episode considers a future in which plant DNA is manipulated to create biodiversity where it had been destroyed by human activity.

And there you have it - we hope you found this list helpful! There should be plenty above for you to get your teeth stuck into, but if your podcast appetite isn’t satisfied by our collection, not to worry! This is just a taster of a few favourites and there are many more climate podcasts out there to explore.
